SOW – Dog

Anna
SOW, Anna Wildsmith’s long-running alternate project with PIG, is returning with their first album in 12 years, entitled ‘Dog‘. It’s just the third studio album in 20 years, co-produced and co-written by Raymond Watts (PIG, ex-KMFDM), Rob Henry (Euphonic, Children Of The Bong) and Anna Wilsmith (SOW) and features guest appearances from Steve White (KMFDM, 16 Volt) and Mike Watts (PIG).

It is currently available for direct pre-order at the newly-launched official SOW website.

Also available is a new free SOW MP3, ‘Victim‘, featuring music by Raymond Watts.

It will be available on CD / digital on March 16, 2010 via US label I, Absentee.

SOW – Dog
SOW is Anna Wildsmith of France, with a revolving line-up of backing musicians. Previously on Martin Atkins’ Invisible Records, Anna also toured as both a live member and show opener for his legendary Pigface group. However, SOW is primarily known for her work with Raymond Watts (PIG, ex-KMFDM). Other notable past SOW players have included Sascha Konietzko (KMFDM), J.G. Thirlwell (Foetus), Jon Caffery (Einstuerzende Neubauten, Kids On TV), Guenter Schulz (ex-KMFDM, Pigface, Slick Idiot) and many more. For just her third studio album in 20 years, Anna once again enlisted Raymond Watts and Rob Henry (Euphonic) to write the music. The album is produced by PIG, SOW and Euphonic and sees Wildsmith steer into more up-tempo directions. Dog marks the first release from SOW in a staggering 12 years, recorded over the span of a decade.

Have you seen my sister Evelyn?

EvelynEvelyn cover

There’s been a bit of a shitstorm surrounding a blog announcing Amanda Fucking Palmer and Jason Webley’s project Evelyn Evelyn. A lot of it had to do with people demonstrating the magical power to know someone’s thought process, intention and indeed, entire fucking persona from a bunch of text. We’ll leave all of that controversy at its source and wish Amanda and Jason our best hopes for pit-high waders to present what really is a fantastic record and a little smoke and mirror action which is precisely what we want and need to witness. Sadly, there is no bastard way I’ll be able to attend one of their London shows but I WILL be buying the album. If you go, love it twice as hard for me.

We love the one track we’ve been able to hear, “Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn?” and it’s been added to the Radio Hydrogen playlist, so keep an ear out for it.

The backstory:
“EVELYN and EVELYN NEVILLE are dicephalus conjoined twins, sharing between them three legs, two arms, three lungs, two hearts, and a single liver. Born on September 11, 1985 on a small farm on the Kansas-Colorado border, the Evelyns have lived in Georgia, Manitoba and South Dakota, and have traveled the greater part of North America performing with “Dillard & Fullerton’s Illusive Traveling Show”. They are fluent in chicken and their favorite colors are purple and yellow.”

From Amanda’s blog, here are the details on the live shows:

the order of the evening will go something like this:

-doors-
a short set by JASON WEBLEY
a short set by AMANDA PALMER
a short set by SXIP SHIREY
-intermission- (GO BUY MERCH!!)
an hour-long set by EVELYN EVELYN
-end-

the whole evening will last between 2-3 hours, depending on the venue.

note: **jason, sxip and i will be signing stuff on any nights where there isn’t an absurd curfew or we don’t all need to fly out at 6am the next day.**

we tried to get the most high-class, comfortable venues possible, because we really want people to pay attention to what the twins are doing onstage.
if you’re coming to any of the shows, please respect the twins’ wishes that no photograph be taken of them unless you’ve been formally informed that it’s ok. (but take all the photos you want of me, jason, and sxip; we love it)

and get tickets NOW — with the three shows in london being an indication of what’s to come, these will no doubt sell out like hotcakes…fast.
send these dates to ANYONE you know in these territories! here’s a link to tweet (feel free to edit/repost a similar link on facebook, myspace, etc): TOUR DATES for @AMANDAPALMER, @JASONWEBLEY, @SXIPSHIRY, and @EVELYNEVELYN up NOW at http://bit.ly/seeEElive

NITZER EBB return with new album and tour with Depeche Mode

When Bon Harris and Douglas McCarthy formed a band in 1982 to record their first demos, they did not expect to write music history.

The sound was rough and hard, an electronic adaption of the fading punk movement. Using a minimum of equipment – drums, a sequencer and the piercing voice of McCarthy – Nitzer Ebb soon became a synonyme for an important new musical style: Electronic Body Music, EBM.
After revolutionary albums like “That Total Age”, “Belief” or “Ebbhead” the guys went on different tracks for more than ten years until they revived the spirit with a reunion show of the first time.
The new studio record “Industrial Complex” proves how brilliant and relevant Nitzer Ebb are still today. It starts of with a moving bassline reminding on clubhits like “Murderous”. “Promises” is, despite of that, a very contemporary song. McCarthy’s vocals vary from fragile to offensive – the arrangement is detailed, edgy and full of energy: The entire NE-Universe experienced in an essence of four minutes. “Once You Say” is of similar power. With some elements of BigBeat and a fat, deep bassline it will get the audience on the move. The slow “Never Known” fuses an essence of the albums “Showtime” and “Ebbhead”. Acoustic drums, blues-like flair and laszive vocals built up to a dramatic final. “Going Away” of dark atmosphere and gentle piano sounds paired with unknown sensitivity make it a pure ballad. Nitzer Ebb’s extraordinary sense for melody and atmosphere has often been decently demonstrated in the past. Using the entire range of their musical spectrum and unleashing all emotions, “I’m Undone” is a vivid example of their variety. At the other end of the extremes, “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” or “I Don’t Know You” bridge to the late 80s with their harsh and staccato-like EBM-drive.
Without any doubt, Nitzer Ebb achieved to retain the diversity of all their past works and to create a modern contemporary sound on the basis of a summary of each era of the band’s history. By that they have fulfilled all their personal demands and respected their roots entirely.
Starting in Berlin on January 9, 2010, through to Dusseldorf February 27, 2010, Nitzer Ebb will be the opening act for the final European leg of Depeche Mode’s “Tour of the Universe”. Los Angeles, CA, November 2, 2010:  The last time Nitzer Ebb shared the bill with Depeche Mode was 20 years ago, when they were the opening act on Depeche Mode’s 1988 “Music for the masses” Tour.  After two decades, Doug McCarthy and Bon Harris will once again join their good friends and former Mute label-mates Dave, Martin and Fletch on tour in Europe from January 9, 2010 through February 27, 2010.

SANTA HATES YOU launch the “Rocket Heart” EP

The creative strength of Peter Spilles is inexhaustible. With the brilliant PROJECT PITCHFORK album ‘Dream, Tiresias!’ still ringing in our ears, he follows it up with the EP ‘Rocket Heart’ from his unconventional project SANTA HATES YOU.

Stomping beats, driving sequencers and apocalyptic sounds are skilfully mixed with dark, aggressive vocals. Peter Spilles und his Italian partner in crime Jinxy give us, in an unexpected and seductive way, a musical kick up the arse which lends the whole an unnaturally sexy character.

SANTA HATES YOU are loud, aggressive, dark, rebellious, threatening, danceable, moving, passionate and intelligent. An alluring yet wild playground of electronic music, upon which the protagonists let off steam with lascivious poses and innocent expressions in order to clobber the listener around the ears with the concentrated strength of their beats and sounds, which nearly take your breath away.

The EP is packaged in an elegant digipak and is strictly limited to 2,000 copies. In addition to a cover version of the AND ONE hit “Deutschmaschine”, it also contains remixes from STRAFTANZ, SOMAN und REAPER plus a further bonus track. A must-have for every PROJECT PITCHFORK fan. Indispensable for all fans of hard as nails electronic music! If this particular Santa hates us, you¹d gladly unwrap this present and it’s good that this is the case. It is an enrichment among the gifts that is worth discovering. Let yourselves be seduced! SANTA HATES YOU are utterly cunning, brutish and so disturbingly sexy that they deliver the perfect soundtrack for nights danced away in clubs!

ROTERSAND rebel with new album

Rotersand_RIR_Cover_500Ever since their debut, ‘Truth is Fanatic’, exploded like a bomb, it has been impossible to imagine the clubs and the alternative charts without ROTERSAND.

Also with their new album, ‘Random is Resistance’, they have once again succeeded in performing the balancing act between club-friendly music and a total work of art.

They mix chilled-out electrobeats with shimmering futurepop sequences. Trancelike sounds with atmospheric samples. Clear-cut melodies with warm and charismatic vocals. Subdued new wave with classical strings. Nor do they shy away from acoustic guitars and pop hooklines, creating a unique universe that pulls together all strands of electronic music and which remains masterfully emotional and above all, intelligent.

MESH release “A Perfect Solution”

Mesh_aperfectsolution_cover300After a three year absence, Bristol’s hottest underground export in heart-wrenching electronic pop is back. MESH, the duo of Mark Hockings and Rich Silverthorn, return with „A Perfect Solution“, possibly the most mature, mutable and yet toughest album of their career. While no one doubts Mark Hocking’s status as an exceptional vocalist, a complete listen to this album also serves to highlight the band’s songwriting and arrangement skills. Once pegged as a purely retro synth act, MESH have mutated into a true live band, and the resulting versatility in the arrangements transforms what might have merely been 11 good songs into outstanding ones.

Thematically, “A Perfect Solution” is a bit darker than previous releases. The tone of the album is typified by “If We Stay Here”, a tale of broken relationships between people who once loved each other but who now just exist in the same space. The massive housing facade pictured on the coverfurther symbolizes the painful dramas which take place behind its windows. The wires running throughout the artwork are both safety lines and shackles – anything but “A Perfect Solution”. Were the album musically as dismal andhopeless as it is lyrically, “A Perfect Solution” might be too much to handle, but luckily MESH know how to strike the delicate balance between ”bitter” and “sweet”.

Alongside the regular jewelcase CD edition (mind 140) the album will also be available as strictly limited collectors box set incl. the album, 7″-single, poster and a special size 48-page booklet (mind 141).
